Fault with heater?

I have had my Tekna dci 4 months now and really enjoy the car however, I have noticed that when I shut off the heater, I still get hot air into the cabin. I have tried all scenarios and currently leave it in recirculation mode and keep it on the windscreen when not in use.
I booked it in with my Nissan dealer and took their senior technician out in it on Monday morning to show him the fault. I explained that the faster you drive, the more heat is forced into the cabin. He noticed the problem and said he had not come across this before. He went to have a word with one of the mechanics who owns a Juke to see if this is "normal"? Came back to me unsure and said they would check some other Jukes this week and would be in touch. I reminded him that the engine needs to be up to temperature to test, I have heard nothing since, so shall pop in Monday. In the meantime I thought I would sound you guys out. Sounds like a flap is not shutting off correctly but technician said if this is the case, dashboard would have to come out

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I think you have to shut the a/c completely off as turning the fan speed down doesn't shut the system down.

It's not something that I have paid any attention to but it has cropped up before and I am sure that when others log on they will be able to give you better advice.

If you have set the aircon to re-circulate, then it will re-circulate, which explains why air is blowing.Try switching everything off, that is, no lights against ANY of the airflow settings, including inside/outside air. Then see if the problem still exists.

Popped in to Nissan today, had a word about "re-programming the heater" and was told that you cannot do this as it is not controlled by any on board computers .Checked to see if it blows cold air and yes,it does Therefore knackered????Still think it's just a fault with a control flap passing by, but technician still waiting to test when one is available (must have been 15 in the carpark!!!)Will call back next week if no response from Nissan and shall keep you posted on outcome.

Up date as promised...Juke went into Nissan workshop yesterday. Before work started I was made aware that if during the investigation, they find any foreign objects causing flaps to stick, this would not be covered under warranty I was then informed that they have taken pens and pencils out of air vents before now and they have even had acorns stored in the engine scuttle causing one worried owner to book her car in due to the rattle from the engine!I left the Service Dept wondering OMG how much is this going to cost meHad the call today to pop in and have a word with the technician. 10 minutes later I was there and this is what I was told.....The dashboard had not been removed as previously inform it would be, which was a great sigh of relief. The Technician managed to remove the pollen filter and hook the car up to their diagnostic computer system. He confirmed that all flaps operated as normal and had been in touch with Nissan's own Technical Dept to investigate my query. He was informed that this is down to Nissan design as the main air intake located at the engine bay scuttle does not have an on/off flap, it is permanently open. He did ask if Nissan would be redesigning this flap but was informed that not many people have complained about this and that they would not be changing existing spec.Up shot is.... I now accept this has being a quirk I can live with and will continue to dissipate unwanted heat through the windscreen vent.Overall experience with WESTWAY Nissan was very good, staff very polite and could not fault service! I shall be using them for my future maintenance requirements Further more GUYS..... anyone with a rattle in their scuttle, FOR GOD SAKE CHECK YOUR NUTS

Having just read this thread I'm a bit lost.Is the problem that you always get warm air even when everything is switched off? Or as stated later that it blows cold air so it is knackered? When I got mine I discovered that warm air was always coming through the vents even though I'd turned the temp to the minimum. Then I found that the A/C was still switched on, so switching it off restored normal fresh air flow. I suppose I hadn't associated heating with 'climate', on my previous cars the heater was one thing and the aircon was another.

^ Climate control is different to air-con in cars. With climate control the air vents and temperature is controlled for you. The car operates the heater and the air-con compressor as required to maintain cabin air temperature and quality at the correct level, and directs air through vents automatically. To use climate control optimally, you should have all the air vents open and set the climate control to 'Auto' (in most cars that i've had over the last 15 years or so). It's also important not to have air-recirculate mode operating whilst the climate control is in the Auto mode (some cars will engage the air-recirculate mode automatically to get the cabin up to temperature quickly or if they have sensors to 'smell' the air and detect various odours.

So as I understand it the car always takes in air from outside, even when the heater is set to recirculate. Is that right? If so it would go a long way to explaining the problems I have had trying to get the car up to temperature and the rear side windows free of ice in cold weather. I was on the verge of selling the car last winter because of this, and have been wondering what to do about it in the coming winter. Maybe I'll rig up a flap of my own to block the vent.

I have had my second juke for four months and since purchase have been plagued by heater problems, which were not apparent on my first Juke. The issues seem very similar to those described in that even when i turn off all heating controls (air-con, climate control) that hot or cold air continues to blow. This is exacerbated by the fact that you can not close the central vents. A further problem is that the you can only have hot or cold air (nothing in between). When i switch my car on (even with the heating/air con controls switched off I immediately get the temperature that was set the last time i drove. I have now had it in the garage three times and have been told that this is the design and that all cars have air flow through the sensor grills - which i can accept but i would expect this to be the temperature of the air outside, and to be honest I have been testing it out in friend's cars of different makes and models and none appear to have the same issues. This certainly did not happen in my last Juke. The problem with the only having hot/cold and no incremental temperature increase is also the case when the air con/climate control is on. I have tried setting it on auto, recirculation - in fact i have tried any which way to no avail. I have been in touch with nissan customer service and was advised that this is the first complaint that they have received in relation to this and yet i have researched it on the web and this forum and it certainly doesnt appear to be an isolated case. In four months i have gone from a happy contented nissan Juke owner to one who is extremely dissatisfied and unhappy.

I understand how frustrating that can be as my Juke is now constantly blowing really cold air! Did you manage to get it resolved in the end?

Hi, just to add to possible solutions: -just purchased a juke and once the sun had set realised things where a bit chilly!... had a look the next morning and the wire to the actuator which controls the flow of hot air had been unplugged (possibly when serviced as part of the cabin filter replacement process - remove the glove box tray). The cable is terminated with a white plug and can be found underneath the glove box to the right hand side closest to the center console (looking up under the dash from the foot well) to the right of a white polystyrene block. In our case it was hanging loose so just plugged it back in and now we have heating in the cabin again!.. panic overthe nice part was that no screws or dashboard parts needed to be removed! Thanks again to the people who posted here, it really helped me find where everything was located in a strange new car and fix it without spending a fortune!

Hi, just wanted to say thanks to Fluffkat for the tip. My Tekna was in for a service during the week and I noticed today that it was only blowing cold air out, even with the AC cranked up to 30degC. Going on holiday in it first thing tomorrow morning so needed it sorting sharpish (who knows what the British weather will bring us next week!).

I popped the air filter out (clips), dropped the glovebox (3 screws above, 4 below) and there was the little white plug dangling at the back. Plugged it back in and warm air returned. Job done. Nice work chaps
