Hi all. My name is Pat and I have a Nissan Juke Tekna. We purchased our juke in October 2010. I have never done many miles and at 22.000 miles the cvt transmission failed. July 15th this year so out of warranty. My car was taken to Crystals in Boston Lincs. I contacted Nissan and they assured me they would do all they could to help but when they found out my car was not serviced at a Nissan garage they backed away saying I had not been loyal to them. They did find me a recon from Macys in Scotland and said it would be £3,000. My husband rang Macys and he said he did all the cvt recons for Nissan and we could have one delivered to Boston for £2,500. I have no idea how he has so many recons as the Juke only came out in 2010!! Interesting though !! We removed our car from the garage and found another cvt for a fraction of the cost Nissan wanted to charge us but for some reason Crystals drained the oil from the gear box and put in new? Have no idea why they would have done this except our mechanic thinks oil may have had metal filings in it. New torte converter was also needed. I seem to have been taken off the Nissan facebook page. I did get a phone call from some director whose name escapes me to say there was nothing he was prepared to do due to lack of loyalty. The fact that this was our 3rd new car from them I would have thought was showing loyalty. If you have the chance I would suggest you take out extended warranty on your cars or change before warranty runs out!! Good luck.

Because our car was built in Japan, the replacement CVT had to come from there with a 4/6 week wait. Now the battery needs replacing but once again due to it being Japanese it has a different type of battery which has to be ordered but thankfully its obtainable in the UK, just a few days wait. Thank to our dealership they have kept us mobile.

Also an oily/ burning smell. The Symptoms are intermittent and the dealer says it can't hear anything. I asked them to analyse the CVT box but they refused. They will not look at it until they witness any symptoms. They called today Saturday and will test drive it again on Monday.I warned my wife that this would happen if she bought a Nissan CVT, but she insisted on having one. I told her that we would only buy one if under full warranty.
The update is that we provided video evidence of the noise and the Dealer is waiting for authorisation of replacement. Hopefully we will get the new Xtronic CVT released in 2014 rather than the old model.

Collected car today. They have fitted a new Xtronic transmission with the latest software update.I am quite impressed with the new box. It does not suffer from the high pitched whine of the old box as you accelerate hard, but gives a quieter smoother audible sound without the jolting sensation you get with a conventional gearbox.Lets hope they have conquered the reliability issue.

I bought an almost new Juke in summer 2011 which had just few miles on the clock. I drove it without incident and had low mileage for nearly 3 years. Then two weeks before the 3 yr warranty expired, it started rattling like there was a pebble in the wheel area or the engine. I had paid for annual services at Nissan dealers, nothing had come up during those services. Fortunately for me, my local dealer got the gearbox replaced just a couple of days before the warranty expired, otherwise it would have cost me £7,000. But they said the warranty on the new gearbox would only be valid until the end of the original warranty period (e.g. about one week!) so I paid £700 for a 2 year extended warranty. That seemed a bit unreasonable since usually a product has to be fit for purpose and you would expect the new gearbox to last more than one week, but I wasn't willing to chance it failing again.Anyway, I was lucky it happened within the original 3 year warranty. But I would never buy another Juke - even though I love the car! My previous car was a Nissan Micra, and the power steering had failed on that which cost me £3,000 - half the value of the car. So it's a Ford or VW for me next time!My advice to automatic gearbox Juke owners, perhaps even all Nissan owners, is to buy extended warranties until you sell your car - my two experiences had led me to the view that Nissan cars can have big costly engine failures for no reason. If yours has already failed - sorry but it happens a lot from what I have read on this forum. Hopefully someone will read this before it happens to them and will get their extended warranty in place.

I think I'm about to join the CVT gearbox failure gang.I have a 64 plate Accenta which was purchased with delivery mileage only. It has less than 5k on the clock. It's been serviced by the dealership and is obviously still under warranty. The car has gone into 'safe mode' three times now with total loss of power on runs longer than my normal commute. The problem could have been there since I took ownership of the car and just not been visible. After the second issue when we ended up stalled twice it was taken to the main dealership where it showed a cleared gearbox fault. They advise me that because the fault has cleared - there is no way of diagnosing the issue. Currently the car is stranded at the side of the road some 40 miles away and is in the process of being recovered having lost all power whilst driving uphill. What is the best way of dealing with this - via the dealership or by Nissan customer services.

Hi,Sorry to hear your tale of breakdown.Get Nissan Customer Services involved at the earliest opportunity. Your dealer may already have contacted Nissan but maybe not.If I remember correctly, safe mode was a different issue and required a firmware or software upgrade to the car. It was done under warranty and I don't think the issue has resurfaced on cars which have had the upgrade.Search the forum for 'safe mode' and see what comes up.Cheers,Cofnchtr.

So I always recommend getting some form of Visual Evidence to back yourself up with?As cameras are so prolific these days, set one or two up inside your car each time you use it and that way should something 'occur' like this, you'll have a record of it to show whoever needs to see it, fault code or not!Yes I know, a bit of effort needed on your part, but with something like this to hand to stick in front of those ever so helpful types at our wonderful Nissan Dealerships ... you'll be surprised how much it works in your favour. Both Video & Photographic evidence goes a long way when it comes to explaining problems with both the Dealer and then Nissan Customer Services.Anyway good luck with sorting this out?M-J

Hi, My Tekna's CVT failed about a month ago now at 28,000. Luckily it was still under warranty but they only agreed to re-condition the unit rather than replace it. it's taken a month to do however, does anyone know if this is a recurring problem or just a one off? I'm not sure I want the car back if the gear box could go again at any time. Please can someone help with any advice? Thanks

The second failure on my gearbox again showed a cleared fault due to overheating. The advice from the garage was to stop the car, turn off the engine, restart and it will clear. We tried that last time and it came back within half an hour. I've contacted customer services each time and been told to let the garage sort it out.If (or more likely when) it happens again I'm going to really lay into them.

My Nissan Juke 2012 after 4 years and 50k transmission started to make noises. Local dealership opened the transmission and found transmission oil with the "metal dust". They photo it and Nissan HQ authorized the free replacement (even though my Juke is 1 year as out of warranty). I had to pay only for oil change. Now I'm considering if I should swap the juke on some other car, not sure how long new transmission will last.

My 2015 6000 mile juke went for a service
I pointed out that between 35 and 40 mph the revs would momentarily drop and then pick up again.
They said they couldn't find a fault but I needed a new automatic box as there where partials in the oil
I was shocked to say the least then they gave me the warranty bill £4600 of which only £300 was labour
Thank god it was covered under warranty
It did not fix the Rev dropping fault !
I'll be getting rid when the warranty runs out .
I have had 40 automatic cars and the only others box that failed on me was a Ford Fiesta with a cvt box
And that cost £1200 twenty odd years ago.
CVT DOES NOT WORK!
