Front camera...

Was sitting here thinking...

For anyone who has a rear camera fitted, I'm pondering the thought that there must be a 'switch' to turn it on with the reverse circuit.
I'm therefore pondering the concept that this switch could be triggered by a simple x voltage, possibly even on the same circuit as the reverse light.

Which lead to further ponder that it should be possible to spoof that trigger from a different source of the same voltage.

So, in theory, by splicing a front facing camera into the rear camera feeds into the back of the connect unit, and adding a dash mounted switch, it could theoretically be possible to trigger a front camera to display on the screen.

Anyone had a good poke around the back of a connect unit?

This whole theory gets blown out of the water is it runs off a canbus

Well the switch kit arrived yesterday. It does the job but and will be fine for this application but I'm a little disappointed that I can't use it for some other projects because of 2 things:It only switches the video signal, the ground is constant for both inputs and the output whatever state it is inThe video ground is also shared with the switch activation groundLike I say, not the end of the world but anybody buying these should be aware just in case they assumed (like I did) that the inputs would be entirely isolated.

I also got my front camera the other day but have yet to test it.

One problem on arrival was that the camera was facing the wrong way (i.e. As in it would have had to have been fitted in the upper semi circle of the badge). I decided this would have been obstructive in view and wrote to the Chinese seller, who told me in broken English, is no problem, turn camera round. Well the unit is sealed, but with a bit of gentle prising, I managed to turn the unit round and re seal. Just need to test to check I have done no damage.

Would be handy for others (and me if this one breaks) if someone has a link to a badge camera someone has bought previously. Mine came from eBay and although shown correctly, was arrived wrong.

OK, so the rest of the kit arrived this morning so I'll just double check the wiring diagrams haven't been updated since I last looked. Sorry this is a slow burner, but I've been waylaid with requests for various 370Z kits and am working on a couple of different versions of GT-R reverse cameras too.

That's a valid point. I'm think the reverse camera checks for vehicles pulling out and overtaking, etc.I wouldn't bother using this on Jukes that already have all round cameras - no point really.

Oh my word, I've been extremely slack with this. I'd totally forgotten. Sorry.I am in the process of renewing the kits I make for the 350Z, 370Z, and GT-R so I've been a bit tied up!Are you still interested in a kit?

How good are you with electronics? I could make you a kit to install yourself - it would be all plug and play with no wires to cut or join.

I would say iam pretty confident with the electronics!I have bought the front facing badge camera from ebay alreadyhttps://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/141869924868I would approciate some sort of guide, with pictures :)for example, 1.remove stereo according to manual2. Find the loom going in to the stereo3. Splice the blue cable/pin41 and connect the red power souce cable from the cameraAnd so on... I hope its not to much work for you? I love these DIY mods and i have already made a trunk-light mod, works great!

There are a number of youtube videos showing exactly what is required to put in a next base camera.
All the fuses and what they power are on the back of the fuse box casing.
A set of plastic pry bars from ebay make the job easier and safer.
Removing existing fuses is a pain a pair of narrow pliers is the quickest way to get fuses out.
