I've noticed something a bit odd with my Juke: the window glass seems to attract water that easily freezes. This results in what looks like raindrops on the windows but is in fact solid ice on some mornings! This doesn't appear to have been an issue with my previous cars or my other car.So, i'm going to be polishing and coating all the exterior glass with a sealant when we get a few hours of dry weather in the hope that this stops so much water freezing on the glass.Has anybody else noticed this?

Havent had a problem with mine. In fact when other cars have been completely frosted up mine has been completely clear.. Might be to do with the position of my driveway tho. I did have that problem with my last car though, a clio. Those frozen raindrops are a nightmare to shift.

Polished with Autoglym Car Glass Polish and then sealed with Optimum Opti-Seal. It was sunny earlier and driving around it didn't look like I had a windscreen, it was that clear! I did all the windows. Now it's raining so i'll see tomorrow whether or not there's any difference.

waxing and sealing the windows will disperse water and moisture when driving the car,but will not prevent freezing "sorry".to prevent freezing you need to apply a liberal coating of de-icer with kitchen roll.

^ Anything that will reduce the amount of water 'sticking' to the glass should help.In fact, I've just checked this morning (the car hasn't been driven but is soaking wet from overnight rain). The glass looks similar to the glass on my other car which is parked next to it. There's significantly less water sticking to the glass.I realise the freezing can't be stopped but there's less water to freeze so the weird effects of frozen rain drops should be reduced.. As a belts and braces approach i've ordered a windscreen frost blanket too!

I've always dedeoated my windows by pouring cool or tepid water over them with the wipers on intermittent on the windscreen and the heater on max and recirculate to warm the inside up as fast as possible - gets rid of ice and frost quickly.

Try Rain-Ex, it seems to reduce the water sticking in the first place and help with de-icingMiff

Things are a lot better now. I went out for a drive in a heavy storm this evening with torrential rain and very gusty wind. Visibility all round was greatly improved and the water just rolled off the windows, particularly the side windows. I also noticed that the front and rear wipers were a lot smoother in operation.I'll have to wait for a frosty morning to see if the frozen rain drops appear again.

Hi, I have searched around the Threads and have found nothing on this subject - I could be blind !! There are some comments on freezing Screens and this is what we done at naturally a cost. When specing out the Juke, my wife specified she wanted a Webasto Parking Heater fitted with a larger battery which I thought to be a bit over the top, but in fact this has worked well and is a god send in the early frozen wintery mornings. We specified the smaller Thermo Top Evo 4 Unit with a Digital Timer #1533 (fitted in car). The heater has 3 programmed settings which can be changed and runs for 1 hour max. We set the Juke heating temp at 29°C ( 84°F), Fan speed at 4 and the hot air set onto the front screen and side screens. There were various offers around the Timer (cheaper version) or Remote, we chose the basic Timer which has to be fitted inside the car and set manually to operate automatically at pre-sets or by pressing a button to start immediately - simple.
The engine and inside of the car is warm and the windows / screen wipers are free of ice and snow.

The cost is reasonably high but safety is also an important part of life. Here in Germany there are numerous regulations regarding cars, one is that you cannot have your engine running whilst you are cleaning your car from snow or ice, also which is logical you cannot drive with frosted up windows. When the Webasto system is not fitted it is back to scrapping the ice ( glass scratches ) or spraying and then when you enter the car the inside windows are frosted if you are breathing.

I had a similar device on my previous car. On the Juke I have a mains-powered heater and I plug the car into the mains electric at night. The mains heater is much better to be honest. The car gets warmer, it supposedly heats the sump so the oil flows a bit more easily in cold weather, and I switch on when I want rather than setting a timer. (I don't keep regular hours so a timer is not so useful for me).The only time the webasto was better was when parked away from home and plugging into the mains was not an option.

SJukeF, Hey that sounds a great idea if like most Brits you own a house and an electrical socket. Unfortunately we live in an Appt. and cannot really hang metres of cable out of the window. With the Webasto System we either set the timer when we park at night to a next day pre-set time or set it manually when we need it. Usually after 20 minutes things have happened (warm car / warm motor / free windows) and the max set time is 1 hour - Dave

Believe me, if we in the UK trailed an electrical cable out of the house, we would wake up the next morning to a gypsy caravan site connected to the other end.....

Would imagine it might be possible to hook it up to a gismo so that it could be triggered remotely by text message.

This might do it

Read the small print:please note, this is a very handy unit but it will not replace your car blower heater, its designed to take the edge of the cold in your car and to assist in the demisting of your car, do not expect to open your car and enter the Sahara desertPersonally I would be dubious about using such a device in the UK and certainly wouldn't trust it here. Seems to me this type of device would be a useful thing to have in winter in a climate where there is no real winter.

Saw that, but if it was running for 30 minutes or so before you went out to the car, I would expect it to have warmed the interior sufficiently to have de-iced the windows, which is all we're aiming for, not to warm us. Personally, I keep my car in the garage so I don't have this issue.
