Lights at night

Hi,Really sorry if this has been asked before but I've spent the last hour searching the internet and can't find the answer.I was driving along tonight in my 2014 Juke Acenta Premium (pitch black apart from other cars' headlights and a few street lights) and from where I was sitting in the driver's seat the lights looked as though they were on. The dashboard was also clear so I had no idea that my lights were not in fact on. A lorry was flashing me so that's how I found out. If it had been pitch black then I would have noticed I'm sure, but as it was quite well-lit I didn't notice. When I got home (having pulled over to check the lights only to find they weren't on!) I sat on the driveway and turned the lights to 'off' but the driveway was still lit up just not as much as in the 'on' position. Can someone explain why the lights looked as though they were on but in fact weren't?Thanks, Kate.

I assume the lights were the 'frogeye' lights at the top of the bonnet - these are DRLs (dalylight running lights) and are on permanently - you can see these from inside the car. Your headlamps are below these and these will be controlled by the light switch - these are the ones you need for night driving.

Gadget I'm confused when it comes to HID kits so maybe you or my other fellow Jukers can help. My brother is an mot tester and a master technician at a VW main dealer and he said to me that if I fit an after market HID kit to my car that it would be an mot failure as the lights don't have self levelling and washer jets on the lens. So is my brother rite or can I tell him to go do one

Panto Season is upon us Well Lukeplayer187 .... Is your Juke due an MOT any time soon!!! And you could always fit a Washer Jet System - I posted on another thread that I'd found a DIY Kit for ÂŁ25 Anyway I bet your brother, the Master Technician drives over the speed limit in a 30, and a 40, and a 50 etc ...? And I bet he parks on double yellows when it suits him ... eh? So hope he's not in a glasshouse whilst throwing them stones Lol. It's a personal choice ... at the end of the day, as with everything you do ______________________________________________________Tip Of The Day [regarding MOT Testers]Not the brightest in the bunch, an MOT is only good for the day it was done (at most) and at worst if you need an MOT done and have non-MOT approved items on your vehicle, you simply remove them for the MOT, the put them back on afterwards? Simple ... simple

He is correct but in the modding world anything virtually goes.mine have been on for a number of months with nobody complaining been past and followed by the police with no reaction.it is a case of using your brain lower the headlight setting around town higher them in the countryside, mine is set in the low position as i live in the city and they are quite ample, on high beam everything is lit up.when it comes to mot time i will take the hids out and put bog standard bulbs in a 15 minute jobthey can only test on what there is on the day they are not going to be delving in to the engine bay.

One other consideration might be if you were involved in an accident at night, whether the insurance company would investigate and deny a claim because of the modification.

all mods on mine are declared to the insurance company down to the dump valve and induction kit.they will be notified of the change of lighting it's just time as gone by being in and out of hospital etc. i hope all the members are notify there insurance companies with regard to lowering the suspension, and especially tune ups and exhausts.

actd wrote:This might help http://www.noclaimsdiscount.co.uk/even-the-smallest-car-modifications-can-invalidate-insurance/Nice to have an Insurance Company Crusader on here actd, in which case I do hope you have or will be declaring your own modifications to your insurance company? Would not want you falling foul of not having ANY Insurance on your own Juke So, let's see ... There's your Wine Rack Grill MESH you've just bought off Ebay and are about to fit (?) - Then your Bulb Upgrades (?) ... Oh, the addition of the Full Size Spare Wheel [not a standard part, so YES, it's a modification!] (?) ... Then the Bonnet Guard, don't forget that (?) ... and then whatever else you have or will be adding to your Juke .... shall I go on? Like Gadget all my accessories where added to my policy when I took it out with C/K and on the advise posted on here [the Forum] I got them listed on a separate sheet ... thanks Cr4zyhorse . Plus I did only speak with them last week with regard to adding the Bonnet Guard to my List, which would have meant an additional Mid-Term Admin Charge, but as my policy is up for renewal in less than a month they - yes they - simply suggested I hold of installing it for a month, then add it to my New Policy at No Extra Cost ... result. So ... all my MODS are already covered on my policy - including my upgraded headlights (which I added when I first took my policy out) So ... Are Yours ... ALL declared on your Insurance Policy?

Ah, the headlamp bulbs are ECE stamped so aren't a modification as they are approved direct replacements, full size spare might now be down to a spacesaver as I don't thing the full size will fit - that's a Nissan accessory, as is the bonnet guard. Having said that, if I did use a full size spare, it's carried in the boot, not fitted to the car as an accessory, so doesn't need to be declared - if I fit it, then it's an original Nissan Juke alloy, exactly as fitted now. If it's sold by Nissan for the Juke, then it's not a modification for the car, so don't need to be declared. Grill mesh will be declared. Everything else is simply protection (tape on sills, headlamps etc) and don't affect the look or performance of the car any more than the paint protection that Nissan try to sell.I'm not saying don't fit mods - but if they aren't declared, then you need to be aware that in the event of an accident, it could invalidate your claim, or worse still, your insurance - in which case the police can prosecute for driving without insurance. I'm certainly not crusading for the insurance companies (and there're one or two I positively don't like as I've been screwed by them in the past) - quite the opposite, I'm making sure that they don't have the opportunity to wriggle out of a claim.

Umm, any Modification Or Accessory you fit to your car, that you do not declare to your Insurance Company can be used against you in the case of a claim, whether or not they are Genuine or not?Just for your information, when I spoke with the two main Forum Insurance sponsors with regard to getting a quote for my Juke last December - one had to refer me to their special underwriter due to the number of accessories [not modifications] I was fitting to my Juke whilst the other had not a problem with adding them to the policy as long as they where all listed. If I had, had performance Mods then I would have expected a premium rise, but as I was simply adding a large number of factory options from the accessories catalog, they still need to be listed against my policy - from Mudflaps, Mats, Front & Rear Protection Plates, Rear Spoiler, Mats, Boot Liner, Headlight Upgrade, change of rear lights to LEDs, etc... etc ... etc! Anything I added that the car did not come with 'out of the showroom' needed to be listed! So just to correct you a little, whilst you may think 'carrying a spare in the boot' does not need to be declared ... er, yes ... as firstly a LOSE wheel in the boot is a Death Sentence waiting to happen, so you'd need to Fix It Down and when you do, it becomes 'affixed to your car' and as such should be declared to your insure for them to reassess your policy etc..?Also you may like to know that just placing a Sticker on your car (yer, even a Baby On Board - Driving!) could cause you problems with your insurer as in the past several Insurance Companies have successfully used the argument that Stickers can make a vehicle more desirable to a Thief or Vandal by way of making said vehicle more desirable/noticeable and because the stickers where not declared to the insures for them to reassess the risk of the policy, they refused the claims submitted on those occasions! [Feel free to search the internet - I'm sure you'll find reference to them and they make quiet interesting reading?]So just to recap, anything you fit to your car after you purchase it will 'need to be declared' unless you feel your insurer will be understanding and forgiving in the event of a claim? [ Your choice? ] And that includes Genuine Accessories as well as Aftermarket Accessories on top of any Modifications you then make - performance & non-performance likewise?

Fair enough - though doesn't that all just back up what I said originally that the hid bulbs could invalidate your insurance

I went into nasty woman mode and threatened my salesman with a fate worst than death if there were any extra stickers in my car! All credit to him, he even set the tax disk exactly where I wanted it (top left) as I hate having my view obstructed.

I forgot to tell them that this time.
