A few weeks ago I decided to de-chrome the big grill surround. Personaly I think it sticks out to much being so big and chrome. After traling the web for a while I found a removal guide for the grill on the pre face lift model on another forum and thought I would do one for this forum as we all know this is the number one Juke forum to be on ..
So first off I will say the removal of the grill is fairly straight forward but there are a few hidden clips but I'll try and explain my best where they are.
As for removing the chrome surround that is the more tricky part. You would probably find it easier to get someone to help you with this bit as once you unclip one side you need to hold it apart or it clips back together when removing the other side!
If like me you want to de-chrome the grill I used gloss black vinyl as this is cheep and easy to remove if you ever trade your car in. It's not easy fitting the vinyl so if you've never tried before I'd leave it to your local professional sign writers or vinyl fitting people. It will be cheep as your doing all the hard work removing the grill surround and just dropping it off to them.
So here go's.
First up open your bonnet and you will see 4 push clips as arrowed on the picture.
To remove these you will need a small flat blade screw driver in just pull the head of the clip up as far as it will go then just pull the whole clip out.
Now you will need to pull the plastic over the rubber bonnet stop, you can do this by getting hold of the plastic and bending it till it will pass over the rubber. Some people have removed the rubber bit then double sided taped it back on but I didn't bother!
Now you need to pull the top part towards you. It will only go so far as the bottom is clipped in by two clips which attach to the bumper.
This is one of the lower clips you can't see
But all you need to do to get to it is pull the top part of the grill towards you enough to get your hand down the back then unclip both sides with your fingers and then pull the whole grill off.
So your left with this
Now the tricky bit begins! This is where you mite need a friend to help you.
There are 4 pozi headed screws which need undoing and 6 clips holding the chrome part to the grill but two different types as shown in the next photos.
First type of clip is this one
To undo these you will need long nose plier preferably the bent type which is what I used and you just need to get a hold of the plastic lug and bend it open. These won't stay open and the whole lot clips back together ok so don't panic!
Not the clearest of pictures but you get the idea.
Next up is two of these funny looking clips
For these you will need a large flat blade screw driver to prize both sides of it and pull the chrome part at the same time. Here is a picture to show roughly what to do. Just dig the driver in both sides of the clip and while pulling and it will come away from each other.
So are are left with this
.
Re fitting is easy just reversal of removing.
Any problems just ask and I will try my best to help.
Hope this helps some people
