No Jismo ... wrong end of that stick!Just the fact the Golf GTi was a VW ... who are very topical at the moment and that the GTi engines are all low compression not needing High Octane Rated Fuels to run on? ... That's all. By the way - not much call for 98ron in a Diesel Car ... Is There!!!

Hi tonybony. There should be a sticker inside the fuel filler cover. In any event needs to be minimum of 98. Nissan state 95 may be used for short periods in emergency but keep the tank low and fill up with 98 a.s.a.p. Tesco momentum and shell v power both fit the bill.Hope this helps.

Gents can you definitely confirm its 98 RON, cos i have the latest brochure downloaded and it says 95 RON for both the 214 4 WD and the 218 Front WD. Wife is going to order one in a couple of months to replace her Nismo

Hi Whiterdesign,Wrinkly has stated this very point earlier up the thread. In any event, you will be given a manual, there will be a sticker on the fuel filler cap with all the information to confirm the type of fuel to use.Buy with confidence.Cheers,Cofnchtr.

By the way I well remember that Golf GTI's have always had a requirement of the premium unleaded, dad used to own a mk1 and the owners manual and forums were shouting at you to always remember to pay those extra pennies for the super dooper fuel.
There's so many myths these days going around when it comes to 95 or 97/98 octane petrol it's hard to know what to believe but just like previously stated, do what the manual says, if the car had been tuned to work under 98 then that's what's going in, if the car says 95 then just crack on and pour whatever you feel like! I really don't like the sound of "super diaper fuel".I'm all for recycling but that is a step too far :)
