1.5Dci diesel traction control and engine management lights

Post by Tizzlah » Mon Jul 17, 2017 11:27 am

Hi

So yesterday I was on my way to work, went to over take a bus on the motorway and my car kind hopped forward then showed me the traction control light and red engine management light, and started sounding like a tractor.

I've taken her to a garage today, who tells me it's my glow plugs and my tyres could do with a change...
I'm no car geek, but I can't understand why either of these issues would cause my engine to sound so loud?

I have no idea what I'm doing here, I'm out of my depth and I'm worried that I'll just get ripped off because I'm female.

Please help!

*update* I spent about 20 minutes looking around under the bonnet then after turning the engine on and giving a few revs I've found a split pipe. I'm not sure what it's for though.

Hi.
You did not say if the spit pipe was leaking fluid or air, If you you think it is air wrap any sort of tape around it to see if the noise improves and then hopefully it will just be a cheap fix.
Hope you get it sorted.

Mike.

1. Is your car still under warranty? If so, go to your dealer.
2. Put a photo of the split pipe in here.

Glow plugs only used for starting, so will not affect running at all.

Does the pipe look like this or very similar.

If so it's the turbo pipe and will explain why it sounded like a tractor.
