Strange noise

Post by Xsub » Fri Feb 01, 2019 5:15 pm

Had a very weird experience yesterday and hard to describe but I'll try my best.

I'm not sure if this is related to the fault but it's the only thing I've done different

During the recent cold weather and snow i'd read that putting the car in eco mode and switching the traction control off would help me get through the snow, so I did but only when really necessary so.its been on and off over the last few days.

I had been driving the car no problem and everything as normal then all of a sudden Ithe car sort of stuttered and an almighty grinding/ whirring/hard to describe noise came from what i think was the gearbox or rear of the engine followed by a loud buzzing noise from the dashboard.

The noise was so loud and bad I thought the engine was going to blow up or the gearbox fall off !

It did this 3 times in about 5 minutes but is now fine and drives perfect.

Could switching the traction control on and off cause such a weird problem.

It's a Tekna 1.5dci and the car is less than 3 years old and only 18k on clock

I spoke with Nissan and they have never heard of this problem

Appreciate any advice

I can only assume that with switching the traction control off and on when driving in snow conditions combined with the ABS which sounds awfull when it activates is the problem you have experienced.
Everybody drives differently when weather conditions are bad so its just about finding the best settings for you.
Its only a Juke if it's RED.

Did it again today, just once
It's like an ABS noise but from the engine/gearbox

Only lasts about 2 or 3 seconds and drives perfect

Very odd 😕

Why would you turn the traction control off in icy weather???

You would only turn off traction control if struggling to move in heavy snow.

I've never had a car the reduce power to the point of wheels still able to spin on a standstill.

Your average driver is more likely to kill themselves in winter with the help turned off. Really bad advice.
I've always been quite impressed by how hast a car will pull away in snow or ice when limited by traction control, it generally does a better job of grip than I can on a typical family car,
