I'd actually think twice about the Avons - they aren't bad but I don't have quite the same confidence in them in slippery condition - braking is good, but cornering doesn't feel quite so sure footed - it depends on your journey, one of mine if 20+ miles of fast country lanes. I haven't actually had a problem, it's more a perception.

And to answer your question, the tyre fitters will leave the valves in place as they are part of the TPMS. They are very used to them these days.

Thanks actd, I have a week or two to cogitate.
Maybe I'll give direct replacements a try.

Thanks for your help

I've only just caught with this thread... I fitted our set of winter wheels with winter tyres today. They don't have TPMS fitted.

In previous years this tripped the light on the dash and it would just stay on constantly. Today I fitted the wheels and when I went for a test drive it didn't come on at all.

I'm not sure why this is different from before. It might be that the light comes on next time, but I know for a fact that the car had a ECU software update on the last service and there is a chance this is a new thing. I will report back soon once we've done a few more miles [:)]

Wish I had seen this thread early

Just got a new set of alloys and plan was to use the old alloys as winter tyres looks like might need to spend another 200-250 :-(

Not happy as this was never mentioned buy all 4 nissan dealers I discussed 2nd set of alloys with. grrr

Purchased 2nd set over internet as cheaper.

Will be doing down to main dealers shortly to have a word with them. How much you reckon the sales guys will plead ignorance !
