Hi all, sorry for me going quiet but I've been a tad busy recently. Including driving around Scotland for the last 9 days - which was very nice!Blue407 wrote:I'm very interested in the module you developed for a front camera, is it available to purchase?Secondly, as I already have a in car DVR (HD-quality) recording the front, I would like to install a basic DVR that recorded the rear camera when driving along. Do you think there is a way to do this? Maybe interrupt the signal from the rear camera and provide power to it all the time? I obviously would not want it permanently on the Connect display, only when reversing. But it would be useful to record what's going on behind as well as in front. (Unfortunately I do seem to come across some idiots on the road and will be forwarding footage to Police)Yes, I don't see why not. I would have to check but I don't think the rear camera is powered up until you put the car into reverse, but that can be overcome.Marsden1002 wrote:Was you making a few of these units up and selling them?I could do. If there is demand then it might be worth me buying some components to make some up.

I would be interested depending on price and if you was willing to. In an ideal world i would like the cameras to go via a recording device then onto the screen but to see in front would be great!

this thread seems to have gone a bit quiet and as I was hoping to do something similar on my qashqai (with a factory rear camera), I thought I'd post up my route to achieving something similar.I bought a 12V front badge camera from here:http://www.ebay.com/itm/151166750974?it ... 60&vxp=mtr a 3 way video switch box from here:http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6328418795.htmlboth chinese supplied but arrived in about a week.and an ON/ON DPDT latching switch for isolating the reversing light 12V feed and powering up the front camera:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Momentary-Lat ... c19c427the video switch box is a cheap clever little unit that has a primary input and two secondary ones, the secondary inputs are switched to using trigger wires, so can be wired to the reverse light or a separate switched 12v feed, I'm lazy so rather than wiring up relays myself for £11 this seemed like it was worth a puntfirst I prototyped my configuration using this cheap screen (£13) from Amazon:http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006JY4TQW/r ... imagegreat little screen which would be ideal if you were retro-fitting front and rear cameras to a car without a sat-nav screen already as no need for a switch box as the screen switches itself between 2 inputsI cut into the (existing rear cam) video feed to the QQ connect sat nav (white), also cut the 12v reverse light trigger (yellow), these are in the same positions as the loom picture on p1 of this thread, I ran a loop from these down the centre console for my switch box and front camera wiring.now I have the rear camera working as before (primary output from the video switch) and the front cam can be displayed at any time to the secondary input via and under dash switch (reverse cam overrides front), I also have the third phono input (in the centre cosole storage bin with the USB input for the connect, but it could be in the glove box) for either another camera or a DVD player etc.I also discovered you can easily split the video out and display on two screens(had same image from reverse cam on my connect unit and test screen), so recording to a device that can take an analogue video signal would be easy.

Hi Paul, and the rest of the members.

I know I'm jumping on the band wagon late on, but spotted your video about the installation of the front cam and have finally plucked up the courage to install one on my 63 plate Juke.
Ordered the badge camera, but was wondering if Paul you were interested in making up and selling me a wiring loom for the installation? Obviously willing to pay a respectable amount.
I think I'm fairly competent and the installation doesn't look too taxing, but getting my head around the wiring, that's another thing.

Anyway, let me know if you can help.

Cheers in advance.

Matt.

Hi Matt,Thanks for your interest. It's lucky I subscribed to this thread because I don't visit here very often. The notification email did the trick! (I'm not sure how I missed the post by dtw - sorry). The switching device that dtw mentions above is very interesting. I used a relay and had to buy a box to house it. As long as the ready-built device has a decent lifespan it will be perfect (and help reduce the cost too).I've not revisited this project having built the prototype for Sarah's first Juke but I can certainly look into the cost of making the plug and play loom up for you.Does your Juke have the keyless ignition? If not, would the small round switch (where the start button would normally go) be OK?Cheers,Paul :)

Hi Paul and thank for responding.

TBH I didn't read the other posts that comprehensively as your video was exactly what I was looking for.
On my previous Nissan Note, I had front parking sensors fitted with a manual rocker switch, and that was fine whilst they worked, but they only lasted 18 months or so before they packed in.
I did email the same firm to see if they could do this install, but they never replied (twice), and it gets my back up a bit when companies completely ignore emails of potential work, hence doing it (sort of) by myself.
The rocker switch is fine as I too have the blank plate, and as long it works, not too bothered what the electrics look like as they will be out of sight anyway.

Thanks again for your reply.

Matt.

Sorry to hear about the front parking sensors. They are more susceptible to damage than rear ones so I think they fail quite regularly unfortunately.I was looking into a automatic speed switch for them (it takes a feed from the car speed sensor and will turn them on below a certain threshold) but they are still very expensive (I think the cheapest I found was about £90). I expect they will come down in price soon though. That said, I'm not sure it would be that useful in this installation. The reason being that you don't want the front camera to cut in at say 10mph because you might be approaching a junction and want to see the Sat Nav. Fitting an override switch would defeat the purpose.I'll order a couple of auto switches like the ones dtw linked to and see how good they are

I guess we live and learn what works and what doesn't.

I'll wait to hear from you.

Thanks again.
