Brake Fluid

What's your opinion on renewing brake fluid ?
I think the recommended interval is every 4 years unless of course you are doing some major changes to the brakes and it makes sense to change it at the same time.
Looking at the colour of the brake fluid might give some idea of how old it is but it would be easy for a garage to simply get the old fluid out of the master cylinder and replace it with new fluid so it might not really be changed at all.
Of course if your brakes are ' spongy' indicating there is air in the fluid then it needs to be changed.
I have had a number of cars over the years, some over 10 years old but have never bled the brakes to replace the fluid at recommended intervals, indeed despite the application of penetrating oil on the valves made of alloy could easily snap leading to major problems.

So what are your thoughts on this ? 8-)

Dot4 is the usual, unless you go racingin a nismo. Avoid DOT5 whatever you do, it reacts badly with DOt4 or D5.1
