Propilot is damn freaky

Post by vexorg » Thu Mar 19, 2020 10:42 am

Had a go at the propilot last night on the motorway, so freaky having it move the steering wheel to keep the car centred on the lanes, even on bends.

Then started playing with it to see the limits, try and make it wander and it forces you back in the middle of the lane. Take you hands off the wheel (litterally a few mm) to see what it does and it somehow knows you're not got your hands on the wheel and you get a big red warning on the dash.

All done on an empty strech of motorway, so no risk to anyone else.

It took a few attempts to figure out the blue propilot button is also cruise control.

Dealership explained that is Pro Pilot detects hands not on steering wheel the brakes are applied.

Used correctly on a motorway it is an ideal asset. More so when in speed restricted sections like road works.

Also figured out last night that it must read the speed signs on the road, as it knows the limits for roadworks, or anywhere you drive as you pass the sign.

Haven't had a chance to drive it since the first week due to lockdown. It gets used by my wife for work, but that's it right now.

Yes the car gets use once or twice a week for esensial shopping; so saving pounds on fuel and not going out to dine, as this now allows using up stock in the deep freeze . No motorways on the Isle of Wight so Pro Drive only use on the mainland.

The lawn has never been cut so much and hedges trimmed, me and a neighbour have been tidying up a disabled neighbour's garden just to keep us busy.

Can not wash the car as it does not get dirty, only taken out of the garage so that I can get to stuff in the garage. I bet after writing this the local seagulls will attack it like they have done to neighbour's cars.

Thankfully the Island is very quiet as second home owners have stayed away; campsites and attractions closed.

Oddly our grass needs cut, but the bins are full since the bushes and hedges needed done. And now they have cut back bin collections, and closed the local recycling centre. Maybe next week as they are collecting this week.
