cam belt

Post by alanfjones14 » Fri Mar 13, 2020 10:10 am

I have been told to change the cam belt and water pump regardless of having only 17000 miles on it,because it is a 64 plate gen 2.Is this right ?

It's something like 5 years or 90k miles, whatever is first.

What's wrong with the car, we do more than that in one year!!

Assume thats a main dealer telling you to change it

Cant say what the actual recommendation for change mileage or age wise though, I usually look to change any belt around 70K mark regardless of manufacturer recommendations Especially when outside of warranty period..

There is also an age thing. 8-10 years I believe is recommended..

That said if you know what's what pop the cam cover off and take a look at the belt
If it was the main stealer ask and independent garage what they think.

No real benefit in having a diesel then, in fact it can be problematic for very low miles and the DPF
