Hi everyone,I bought a juke nismo last week in white with auto gear box and i am loving it! I have a questions in regards to the DRL's. I have seen on other forums that people have changed the indicator stalk to the one with fog light switch on it so they can turn on the DRL lights with it. Apparently they work off the same circuit.Does anyone have the UK part number for this? I know the American part number is 25560-JV12A but im not sure if it would be the same for the UK?Thanks

hi evo6,i doubt very much if there is a part no,as our drl's come on only when the engine is started and available only in daylight.when our sidelights are switched on or any other lighting the drl's go out and won't function.thats the way of the design as they are superbright if they were used in fog it would result in severe back glare.the part no above relates to a stalk for the nissan leaf you could enquire at your local nissan dealer but don't hold you breath in getting a straight forward answer.

Hi Gadget, is that correct on the DRL's that they go off when headlights put on ? I have a Fabia vRS and when my headlights go on, the DRL's dim to about 50% of max, but stay on with the headlights ? (the fabia has very bright LED DRL's in lieu of fog lights) Having not got the car yet interested to pick up these titbits. Thanks.

As far as I can see the switch mentioned will serve to connect the DRLs to the foglight circuit, and thus allow them to be switched on (via the foglight switch) when the main lights are on.However, technically the DRLs aren't supposed to be on at night, which is why other makes do actually dim them considerably. That would require some extra thought, since we don't know whether they would run with reduced voltage or require the duty cycle of the full voltage feed to be reduced to achieve the dimming.

I'm hoping to have the magic dimming box fitted next week - however I understand it's dependant on whether the type of LEDs in the DRLs are dimmable - they might not be.....Both the GT-R and the 370Z DRLs dim with headlights on as standard, but they are built in Japan......

I can't explain why, but I'm convinced that the package went west after arriving in the UK....

Do you mean the dimming relay? If so, don't know if you ordered the H8 from Car mod shop, but I'm sure they do a dimming relay as well......just a thought

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm going to go to a local shop which fits stuff like DRL's on cars and see if they can do anything with them. Its a shame that they don't stay on. I would not know where to start with that relay else i would try it :(

some of the other cars like the fiat 500 have dimmable drl's they use a normal twin filament bulb but the base is a T20 wedge with two set of contacts on either side.I ordered some LED T20 ones for him,one worked fine put the two in flickering occurred even when switched off so he is looking in to fitting relays as he dose not want to cut cables voiding the warranty on the car nothing is simple

Plasma's in the sidelights are as good as anyones drl's

No mate, it was a DVD camera from a trust-worthy source.

I have fitted one from Amazon now (Front and rear cameras)

Interestingly, her indoors doesn't ask to drive the car so much anymore

Thanks for confirming Deks. Indeed it is a shame...

Just an observation here but I have a Nismo and yes my DRL's go off when the lights go on. I did contemplate wheter I could wire them to be on all the time BUT then my dad pointed out should anything go wrong with the car and Nissan found any unauthorised mods then they would likely tell you that our modifications were the reason! So I think I will leave be. I do not think a wiring re work could be made without a connection of some tell tale sort?

I bought the advertised relay (DRLR2 mentioned on here) and Mark @ Abbey tried to fit it. Halfway through the job, I also managed to get a DRL wiring diagram to Mark. However, Abbey found my UK Nismo didn't match the wiring diagram (!), and the Relay wouldn't work as power supply to the DRLs was running at 5V.We're still thinking about it, but it may be the LEDs aren't the dimmable sort.Mark also suggested wiring the DRLs to a switch that could be used when the headlights were on, but that would have to be done carefully to avoid feedback to the car's control unit. In the end we also decided they are too bright in their daytime form to use at night!Shame - back on the "nice to do" list for the moment.....

If you can be hassled to do a bit of soldering it might be possible to make every other LED stay on when you put the headlights on. It's not an ideal way of doing it but they overall effect should be half as bright. The only way to find out would be to remove one and take a look inside...

I'm afraid its more complicated than that. If you send power to the DRLs you've got to be certain that your aren't providing feedback to their control unit (more than just a relay I think). If you do get feedback you are liable to confuse the whole lighting control system with who knows what consequences.... As was said elsewhere, swtiches dont switch things on and off anymore - they tell a control unit to switch things on and off (e.g. the DRLS don't go off if you flash the headlights when the side and/or headlights aren't on).I'm trying to find a Nismo drl unit from a breaker to have a play with.....Meanwhile, I'd be very wary of just changing the stalk> Apart from the fact that the DRLs are too bright to use at night without dimming, I'm fairly certain the control unit programming is different between DRL and Fog Light models.
